RECTAL ENZYMES OF ATTINE ANTS. a-AMYLASE AND CHITINASE
نویسندگان
چکیده
The faecal material of seven species of attine ants from the genera Cyphomyrmex, Apterostigma, Myrmicocrypta, Sericomyrmex, and Atta has been shown to contain c+amylase and chitinase, but only a trace of uricase. Chitinase probably serves a beneficial rBle in the fungus-culturing activities of the primitive form.3 by contributing to the degradation of chitinous substrates, such as insect cuticle, and by lysing potentially competitive chitinous fungi. Biochemical factors significant in the evolution of the fungus-growing ants are discussed.

Reciprocal genomic evolution in the ant–fungus agricultural symbiosis
The attine ant-fungus agricultural symbiosis evolved over tens of millions of years, producing complex societies with industrial-scale farming analogous to that of humans. Here we document reciprocal shifts in the genomes and transcriptomes of seven fungus-farming ant species and their fungal cultivars. We show that ant subsistence farming probably originated in the early Tertiary (55-60 MYA), ...

In the later years increased interest in the use of Labrus bergylta (ballan wrasse) as a cleaner fish on Salmo salar (Atlantic salmon) has caused the emergence of commercial farming of L. bergylta. In order to cultivate such a species, knowledge about its digestive physiology and its nutritional requirements is important, especially in larvae. It has therefore been suggested that a thorough inv...
متن کاملThe Glycolytic Enzymes Activity in the Midgut of Diabrotica virgifera virgifera (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) adult and their Seasonal Changes
The western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is an important pest of maize. The diet of the D. virgifera imago is rich in starch and other polysaccharides present in cereals such as maize. Therefore, knowledge about enzymes involved in digestion of such specific food of this pest seems to be important. The paper shows, for the first time, the act...

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) an agro-economically important food crop in the world, is sensitive to many fungal pathogens including Rhizoctonia solani (AG-3), the causal agent of stem and root rot diseases. Chitinase and glucanase are cell wall degrading enzymes which have been shown to have high antifungal activity against a wide range of phytopathogenic fungi. In the present study, plasmid p...
